Danish Freehand

I find Danish designs to be super fascinating because in truth, they feel less like predetermined shapes but rather give the maker a freedom to  respond to the briar in front of them. That’s essentially how the catalogue of established Danish pipe shapes came to be. Michele’s take on this Danish freehand has this wonderful forward momentum to it. The bowl rises into a sharp, asymmetrical rim (which I am personally obsessed with) before sweeping back downward to the bottom of the bowl and back into the longer, stouter shank. That shank is capped with a beautifully dual-toned piece of horn, shifting from a brighter, creamy complexion on one flank to a deeper, earthy brown tone on the other. The horn accent then cleanly transitions us to the pipe’s rich burgundy stem which features just the slightest bend. 

Michele has created a sweet piece with a naturally clean flowing silhouette, and for a pipe with this much visual presence, it weighs just 23 grams. An exceptional piece that will be kind to the chencher. This Danish freehand is slender, practical, and just a joy to hold.
